Pebble recently started a countdown timer on their website and now we all know that the timer was about the new smart watch. We also reported about pebbles new smartwatch campaign on Kickstarter and how it becomes so popular in just some hours. We promised a separate article about Pebble time specifications. So here we’re with it.
The new smartwatch Pebble Time has got totally changed and new timeline interface with a new color e-paper display and a microphone for responding to notifications. The new color e-paper display is easy to read and always-on. Pebble Time inherited 7 days of battery life , water resistance and customizability from its ancestors. Pebble Time will be fully compatible with all existing pebble apps and watchfaces. It works with iOS 8 on iPhone 4s and above It is also compatible with all Android 4.0+ phones including Samsung, HTC, Sony, LG, Google, Motorola, Xiaomi and more. Pebble promised to start its shipping in May
Color e-paper Display:
The new color e-paper display is easy to read and always-on, perfect for displaying incoming notifications and your favorite watchface. Compared with display technology like LCD or OLED, power consumption is minimized, enabling Pebble Time to achieve an industry-leading battery life of up to 7 days.
The main advantage of e-paper is that it only uses power when refreshing. E-paper is also a transflective display technology, meaning it’s completely readable in sunlight. It’s the same for the color e-paper screen being used on the Pebble Time. It seems to be capable of fully animated rendering too.
Microphone for Responding to Notifications
Pebble Time’s new microphone lets you send quick voice replies to incoming notifications which works with most major Android apps including SMS, Hangouts, Gmail, Facebook Messenger, Whatsapp etc and for iOS users, voice replies are now limited to Gmail notifications which company said that they’re working to add more voice reply compatibility with iOS app. You can also use the microphone to take short voice notes.
Design
Pebble Times comes in Three colors. Black watch case and silicone band with black bezel , white watch case and silicone band with silver bezel and red watch case and silicone band with black bezel. Pebble Time is 20% thinner than previous Pebble Watch which becomes just 9.5mm.
It has a curved design which fits comfortably on either wrist and slides easily under shirts. Bezels are made of stainless steel and its lens featured a scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass. The new Pebble 22mm watch bands include a quick-release pin, letting you swap bands in under 10 seconds. Pebble promised to publish the 3D data, which will help you create your own amazing straps, covers and docks.
User Interface
The newly designed interface seems to be the best thing in Pebble Time. There are three tactile buttons, for easy eyes-free clicking, on the right side of Pebble Time which are all about past, present and future.
With one click, see what’s coming up next. Your timeline connects to calendars, alarms, and apps, organizing all kinds of relevant information along with quick actions. Similarly, recall the past. Scroll back in time to see that email you missed, your step count for the day or the score from the game last night. Now your notifications, news, reminders and events are laid out chronologically instead of being trapped inside separate apps. This is the new app menu, featuring new app faces which includes some quick view content. With newly build timeline this system dynamically loads and caches apps as needed, letting you access as many apps as you need.
Software
The Pebble Time open platform operating system has been re-imagined with a new visual style. While all existing Pebble apps will still work great. As previous apps were only black and white so pebble asked all developers to update their apps in order to give them some colors. You can allow apps and developers to add ‘pins’ to your timeline, so you can keep track of things like upcoming events, sports, weather, traffic, travel plans and more.
