Scientist in London have disclosed that 5G internet will be available from 2020 much earlier than many people assumed. British researchers at the University of Surrey’s 5G Innovation Centre (5GIC) achieve record-breaking download speed which is thousands of times quicker than current tech. This astonishing breakthrough which could one day allow mobile phones to download 200 movies per second. Researchers managed to achieve download speeds of 1 terabyte per second which is 65,000 times faster than current 4G technology. It is worth mentioning here that researchers at Oxford University are also developing a new wireless networking technology that uses light to beam information at more than 100 gigabits per second (Gbps).
5G internet will be available from 2020 much earlier than many people assumed. By the year 2020 people can download 100 movies in just 3 seconds using 5G internet speed. The plan is to take the technology outside the lab and onto the campus at the university during 2016 or 2017 before demonstrating it to the public in early 2018, ahead of rivals from South Korea, Russia and Japan. 5GIC director Professor Rahim Tafazolli speaking to V3 said:
We have developed 10 more breakthrough technologies and one of them means we can exceed 1 Tbps wirelessly. This is the same capacity as fibre optics but we are doing it wirelessly. We need to bring end-to-end latency down to below one millisecond so that it can enable new technologies and applications that would just not be possible with 4G
5G is expected to support the growth of the so-called Internet of Things, V3 suggests, allowing devices to communicate with each another without human intervention. It could also help run future services such as holographic projections and advanced forms of financial trading.
